Wolfspeed Introduces AEC-Q101 Qualified SiC Devices for Electric Vehicles and Solar Inverters

Wolfspeed, a Cree Company that produces silicon carbide (SiC) power products, introduced the E-Series™ family of robust SiC semiconductor devices for the Electric Vehicle (EV) and renewable energy markets. According to Wolfspeed, the E-Series provides the highest available power density and durability for on-board automotive power conversion systems and off-board charging. Additionally, the company says that the SiC devices also deliver the highest available power density and durability for solar inverters and other outdoor applications.

Wolfspeed boasts that the E-Series family is the first family of commercial SiC MOSFETs and diodes that is AEC-Q101 qualified and PPAP verified. This Automotive Electronics Council (AEC) designation means that the device meets the stringent automotive reliability and corrosion resistance standards. And the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) verification ensures that the component’s quality is checked along the entire supply chain.

MOSFETs in E-Series Usable in Solar Inverters and EVs

The company pointed out that both 900V and 1200V E-Series MOSFETs and diodes are HV-H3TRB rated, which means that their ability withstand high humidity and high temperatures while operating at high voltage allows them to be used in solar inverters and other outdoor systems as well as EVs.
