Instructor: Workshop #1 Jeffrey I.L. Miller Director Jeff Miller dedication to the art and science of lighting has been recognized with many design awards for a broad range of notable projects, worldwide. His work includes lighting designs for many celebrated international hotels such as the flagship Grand Hyatt Hotel in Hong Kong, and the elegant Four Seasons Hotel in Singapore, corporate offices for the Reebok World Headquarters, as well as the new Grand Bibliotheque de Quebec in Montreal. Most recently Mr. Miller has been leading a team of designers for the new Manitoba Hydro Headquarters in Winnipeg, Canada. When complete, this sustainable designed urban office building will operate as one of the most energy efficient corporate headquarters in North America.
Mr. Miller is a board member of the International Association of Lighting Designers, serving as Director of External Affairs. The organization has over 700 members from 27 countries and 57 lighting industry sponsors, with their participation on the Lighting Industry Resource Council. With annual programs such as the IALD International Lighting Design Awards, the IALD Educational Trust, and Lightfair International, the IALD works on behalf of its members to set the global standard for lighting design excellence. |

Conference Co-Chair George Mueller As Founder Chairman, Mr. Mueller brings vision and strategic guidance to Color Kinetics and its Board of Directors. He is a seasoned inventor and entrepreneur whose expertise lies in recognizing emerging technologies and creating successful ventures to realize their potential. He co-founded Color Kinetics in 1997 and, serving as Chairman and CEO for eight years, was instrumental in spearheading the company's technical innovation, navigating its growth, and fostering the early adoption of intelligent solid-state lighting across a number of emerging markets. He is the author of more than 20 patents and several dozen pending applications pertaining to Color Kinetics' core technology. Mr. Mueller has raised eleven rounds of venture capital and public equity totaling more than $100 million. He is a frequent speaker among the academic community and presents regularly at the nation's top business schools, including Harvard, MIT, Boston University, Babson College, Carnegie Mellon University, and the Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership. He was named Ernst & Young New England Entrepreneur of the Year in 2005, named to Boston Business Journal's Top 40 Under 40 in 2004, and is recognized as a successful and innovative business leader. Mr. Mueller graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a dual major in Electrical and Computer Engineering and minor in Fine Art. He worked in Carnegie Mellon's Field Robotics Center and studied at the Graduate School of Industrial Administration before launching his first company, Internet Securities Incorporated (ISI), in 1994. Today ISI delivers news and information on more than 60 key emerging markets through its network of 22 offices throughout Latin America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa. |

Conference Co-Chair Robert Walker Dr. Walker joined BridgeLux as CEO in July, 2005, and has served on its Board of Directors since August, 2004. He is also a Principal at YEBY Associates, a Silicon Valley-based consultancy specializing in the Solid State Lighting Industry. From 2001-2004 he served as Managing Director-US of Vincera Ventures, a US$150M venture capital fund based in Taiwan with several investments in the areas of HB LEDs and compound semiconductors. During his 8 years at EMCORE Corporation, a leading provider of MOCVD equipment to the HB LED industry, he held a variety of sales and marketing positions, including General Manager, Pacific Rim. Prior to joining the compound semiconductor industry, Dr. Walker spent 10 years conducting high energy physics research, including several years living in Japan. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from Caltech in 1989 and a triple major in math, physics and computer engineering from the University of WisconsinÐMadison in 1984. He has traveled extensively throughout the Pacific Rim region, and has been involved with the HB LED epitaxial industry in Taiwan, Korea and China since its inception. |
