Skyworks Solutions, Inc. of Irvine, California, and Sequans Communications S.A. of Paris, France, have introduced a turnkey connectivity engine for next-generation LTE-based IoT devices that can operate globally. The LTE-based IoT device solution builds upon their successful multi-year collaboration to develop the smallest LTE-based IoT device connectivity engine.
Specifically, the companies have developed a new solution that combines Skyworks’ front-ends with Sequans’ advanced Monarch LTE-M/NB-IoT platform for an all-in-one design that complies with Release 13/14 of the 3GPP LTE standard. According to the companies, the single device simplifies the design and prototyping process and accelerates the launch of many space-constrained IoT products including sensors, wearables, and trackers, where the size is critical.
Leading Operators Pre-Certified IoT Device Solution Through Sequans Monarch Platform
Sequans says that the IoT device solution has been pre-certified with leading operators through existing certifications of the company’s Monarch platform.
The product with proprietary RF shielding includes an RF front-end with integrated baseband, SRAM, RF transceiver, along with passives and power management in a single 8.8 x 10.8 x 0.95 mm package. It complies with the 3GPP Release 13/14 LTE Advanced Pro specifications, including VoLTE support, is optimized for LTE UE categories M1, NB1, and NB2.
It operates across broad frequency ranges (700 MHz to 2.1 GHz) to support roaming and global deployment. According to the companies the device also utilizes proprietary power management techniques to improve battery life.
