OSI Laser Diode Introduces 1625 nm High-Power Pulsed Laser Diode Module

OSI Laser Diode, Inc. of Edison, New Jersey (LDI), an OSI Systems Company, has launched the SCW 1632-350R, a high-power, pulsed laser diode module. The company designed the module for optical testing applications. The new ridge waveguide (RWG) Fabry-Perot (FP) laser diode is housed in a 14-pin butterfly package and is optically coupled to a single-mode fiber (SMF) pigtail.

The laser diode module includes a thermoelectric cooler (TEC) and an electrically-isolated temperature sensing thermistor. OSI says that the module is ideal for applications requiring high peak pulsed optical power and that it specifically designed the module for use in optical spectrum analyzers (OSAs) and optical time domain reflectometers (OTDRs). According to OSI, the higher power gives the OTDR manufacturer greater dynamic range capability.

The SCW 1632-350R operates at 1625 nm and has typical optical 
power of 350 mW. The new device joins the company’s family of high-power pulsed laser diode 
modules, including the previously introduced SCW 1532-500R, which operates at 
1550 nm and produces over 500 mW optical power. Both modules are
 RoHS compliant and have the industry-standard pin-out packaging that the company says provides
 excellent pulse drift performance and high stability. OSI
