Finisar of Sunnyvale, California USA added a new member to its family of high-speed photodetectors. The company says that the new 100GHz Balanced Detector (BPDV4121) can enable next generation of Optical Test and Measurement equipment. The photodetector enables operating frequencies of over 100GHz and offers coherent signal detection and characterization up to 160 Gbaud.
Finisar designed the new photodetector for next-generation high bit-rate transmission systems. The device can accurately measure, characterize and verify performance in real-time. Finisar notes that the ever-increasing baud rates needed for coherent transmission require sampling scopes, high-frequency optical modulation analyzers, and real-time scopes to perform the necessary verification tests.
The new Finisar photodetector operates in the C-band and comes in a hermetic package equipped with a connector suitable for 100GHz+ RF connections. The detector also boasts high responsivity and low polarization dependent loss (PDL).
Samples of the BPDV4121 are available now with general availability later this month. The new detector will be showcased at Finisar’s booth #2403 at OFC 2017 from March 21-23 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. For more about Finisar’s family of photodetectors, please visit www.finisar.com.
