Fairchild Throws Its Hat in the HB-LED Ring

A relatively new entity employing a historically famous semiconductor name,
Fairchild Semiconductor International, (NYSE: FCS) has announced its entry into
the compound semi based HB-LED field with the introduction of two new line Ultra-Bright
LED lamps. According to Steve Sherman, Fairchild Semiconductor Sr. VP for Fairchild
Semi’s Optoelectronics Group, the MV8334T and MV8834T are ultra-bright T-1 3/4
(5 mm) LED lamps that employ TS-AlInGaP (transparent substrate – Aluminum Indium
Gallium Phosphide) technology. The MV8334T is amber in color with a 594 mm wavelength,
and the MV8834T is red with a 635 mm wavelength. Both have a typical luminous
intensity of 3,000 mcd at 20 mA forward current, and both are encapsulated in
a water clear epoxy lens package. Pricing has been set at US $0.16 each (100,000
piece quantities) and are immediately available. Press
