Source/Type:
News - Staff reports
January 31, 2007... While its other compound semi-related enterprises continue to flourish, there's
an obvious ramp in LED-related news these days as Cree, Inc. of Durham, North
Carolina USA tries to regain it's dominant role as one of the original "Big
Five" blue spectrum LED chip makers. The company has issued a flurry of
press releases related to new LED products, new customers and upcoming speaker
engagements. Three such otherwise unrelated news items are highlighted in this
composite coverage. First, Cree has announced that Vortex Vision Corporation,
a pioneer of the rechargeable-battery flashlight market, has chosen Cree's new
XLamp XR-E power LEDs for five of Vortex's LED flashlight models. According
to Vortex's managing director, "We chose the Cree XLamp XR-E LED because
it allows us to make very bright flashlights featuring long run times. The combination
of the XLamp XR-E LED and the advanced Vortex technology ensures that our customers
will have the most powerful Vortex Premium Aluminum Flashlights and TacLites
available." Cree
news release. The second and third news items, which can be viewed in their
entirety over our sister publication, LIGHTimes, include the signing
of an Asian distributor agreement with WPI Group and the announcement that Cree
VP Chris James will be a featured speaker at APEC in late February.
