July 12, 2010... Nichia Corpopration of Japan reports that it has succeeded in deleloping green GaN-based laser diode, The company says it will start its shipment from August. Nichia estimates that the green laser diode has a life time 10,000 hours with the condition of 50mW in continuous-wave operation at 60°C, case temperature.
Nichia notes the advantages of its green laser diode include: low power consumption, small form factor, high efficiency, and low cost compared with conventional light sources applied for pico projector.
Nichia indicated that it will work to development and mass produce the semiconductor laser for pico projectors.
Nichia concluded its news release saying that it will continue to research, develop, and manufacture value-added products i.e. "monotsukuri" (which means "make things" in Japanese).
