Nichia Announces New Patent Cross License Agreement with Cree Inc

February 9, 2005... Anan, Tokushima, JAPAN - Nichia Corporation today announced that it has entered into a patent cross license agreement with Cree Inc., relating to LED technology for solid-state white lighting. The new agreement complements the patent cross license arrangement between the companies announced in November 2002. Detailed terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Mr. Tazaki, Executive Vice-president at Nichia says, “Both companies have pioneering patents. We respect Cree’s intellectual properties, and Cree respects ours too.” “Our market is getting more competitive, and we continue to launch new products utilizing our expertise. There will be more competitors in this market, but this agreement will strengthen both companies’ position as the leaders in solid-state lighting technology”, he added.
