LEDs Enable Less Costly Microscope for Fast Tuberculosis Detection

November 5, 2008... Chalk-up one more application that LEDs can do better.... Tuberculosis is a scourge of developing countries around the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 30 million people will die of the disease over the next ten years.
Carl Zeiss of Germany, and FIND, the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics of Geneva, Switzerland, have partnered to develop a new fluorescent microscope using LEDs. The companies say that the new fluorescent microscope will allow fast, reliable, and affordable detection of tuberculosis.
