Forepi orders ten more Aixtron MOCVD tools for blue LED production
Source/Type: Company News Releases

February 2, 2010... Aachen/Germany-- Aixtron AG announced today that in the third quarter of 2009 Formosa Epitaxy Inc. ‘Forepi’, based in Lung-Tan, Taoyuan, Taiwan, placed an order for multiple MOCVD reactors which will be used for the production of ultra-high brightness (UHB) InGaN-based blue LEDs.
The MOCVD tool order comprises CRIUS Close Coupled Showerhead systems and AIX 2800G4 HT Planetary Reactor systems. They will be shipped in the course of 2010 and will be installed alongside Forepi’s numerous high throughput Aixtron MOCVD systems.

Forepi President Frank Chien, comments: “The reasons for our latest purchase come down to the simple need to add more capacity with high yield equipment as Forepi ramps up again to meet booming market demand. In addition, we will appreciate various special features of the systems on order. For example, we are considering 4” capability for all new systems. All purchased tools are 4” production capable and will give us a rapid, straightforward route to begin offering 4” wafer preparation.”

In its second decade of commercial operations, Forepi remains tightly focussed on leadership in the pure-play manufacture of high brightness InGaN-based LED wafers and chips. Forepi can provide a wide range of products including high power InGaN blue, green and near-UV LEDs. Proud of its experienced and knowledgeable team, it integrates R&D, volume production, marketing and corporate management in the field of InGaN LEDs.
