Dow Corning dedicates Compound Semiconductor Solutions Business Site in Auburn

August 10, 2004... Midland, Michigan USA – Dow Corning Corporation today will dedicate an expansion at its facility in Auburn, Michigan – the new location of its Compound Semiconductor Solutions Business. Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, State Senator Carl Levin, U.S. Representative Dave Camp and other elected officials are scheduled to attend the dedication ceremony.

Recently, the United States Congress appropriated $4.5 million dollars that will enhance Dow Corning’s work to develop improved manufacturing process technology for Silicon-carbide wide bandgap semiconductors produced at the new manufacturing facility. The improvement will benefit current and future defense applications including enhanced airborne radar systems, hybrid electric propulsion systems, and high power electronic switching devices. Consumer applications include light-emitting diodes used in scoreboards, cell phones, traffic lights, automotive instrument panels and numerous other applications.

Dow Corning consolidated people and assets from Dow Corning locations in three states to its Auburn site. The site was selected as the manufacturing location for this technology because of the highly skilled workforce in place and the synergies with Dow Corning’s capabilities at its near-by sites.
