Thermal management company Cambridge Nanotherm announced that it added manufacturing capability and capacity to its MCPCB manufacturing base to meet increasing demand for its thermal management solutions.

As customers demand ever brighter LED devices in ever smaller footprints, the use of more thermally effective substrates is required to keep LEDs cool enough to meet their advertised lifespan. Historically, that meant switching from cost-effective MCPCBs to expensive and difficult-to-work-with ceramics such as aluminum and aluminum nitride. Cambridge Nanotherm offers an alternative.
The company’s patented ECO process converts the surface of the aluminum core of the MCPCB, which acts as a heat spreader, into an electrically insulating but thermally conductive Nanoceramic that provides outstanding thermal performance. Depending on the chosen method of circuitization, the composite thermal performance of the resulting Nanotherm MCPBC can range from 115 W/mK to 152 W/mK.
