The
need to produce very high lumen output LEDs operating at high current
require the development of packaging technology that can rapidly
remove heat from the LEDs. High power LED packaging places new demands
on chip design, die attach, submount design, encapsulation and lead
frame design. This workshop will address the challenges of high
power LED packaging and discuss some of the new materials and technologies
that are being developed to produce high power LED packages providing
low thermal resistance, good optical performance and acceptable
operating life. See
the list of topics...

Today's leading manufacturers of red
spectrum laser diode-based DVD equipment are driving tomorrow's
blue laser-based systems... Hear where the standard-setters,
are headed. The collective challenge to blue LD developers is: "What
do we need... Why do we need it... and Where (and When) are we going
to get it?

2: Emerging Applications and The Competition
The potential for using white LEDs in new
applications such as large flat panels, automobiles, and solid
state lighting, is huge, but there will be significant competition
from the current dominant players. Can LEDs win, and what
will it take?

While "traditional"
HB-LEDs appear dominant in several market areas, several disruptive
technologies do exist. Is there any real potential for OLEDs and
II-VI LEDs to penetrate the high brightness and blue arenas in the
next few years?

Advances
in HB-LED Packaging |
|
While the promise is
there, HB-LEDs don't run cool, and don't naturally put the light
right where it's needed. And don't forget those pesky drivers...
How are innovative companies handling the challenge, and what are
they expecting the results to be? This will
be an exciting forum for hearing how a few of the concepts learned
at the preconference workshop, High
Power HB-LED Packaging, may be applied.
