Blue 2003: Behind the Hot Apps
The Blue Spectrum Industry Review

So What Did You Miss?

The agenda speaks for itself.

In an unprecedented display of industry synergy, Blue 2003 speakers and attendees experienced the increased visibility and personal access to one another that's needed right now. The concise, industry-wide messages were presented as the compelling stories they truly are, and as a result, Blue 2003 exposure has significantly catapulted this advanced compound semi technology sector into the highly desired "Hot Apps" limelight. By focusing on one particular technology group, Group III Nitride-based blue spectrum devices, the messages and stories surrounding that community have been accurately expressed, clearly heard, and finally understood.

As someone already "inside" the industry, you would have:

  • Heard how the "industry consistent" messages are being delivered
  • Met the people who are delivering those messages
  • Been part of the ongoing delivery of "industry consistent" messages
  • Connected with the media, analysts, financiers, and market drivers, and then by directly relating to the themes, positioning your company to benefit from the excitement and extended coverage

Don't make the mistake of thinking this was a mainstream technical or business outlook conference. There are plenty of strong industry conferences addressing light emitting diodes (LEDs), laser diodes (LDs), lighting and/or the underlying materials and processes that contribute to the development of these remarkable blue spectrum devices. Typically (and necessarily) their goal is to provide technical or product capability updates, offer valuable market summaries and projections, and match suppliers with users. And they do an outstanding job of that, which is why we promote and salute them all via our CompoundSemi Online industry resource portal. The charter of Blue 2003 was to bring the technical community's message to a larger audience, which is that critical step the blue spectrum industry needed to take to hasten the widespread acceptance that transforms niche technologies into true high volume applications.

... We picked up where our colleagues running other meetings necessarily left off!

We brought together representatives from these other forums as featured speakers at Blue 2003, which provided those event coordinators with a wider audience, while providing our attendees a valuable summary/debrief of what went down at those tangential events and a preview of what to expect next year. Blue 2003 helped leverage those fine events and the growing popularity of our industry portal, CompoundSemi Online, which champions all events and all companies, by serving in the role our online audience now expects of us. That role is best expressed as a conduit to mainstream business, technology and applications. Nitride-based blue spectrum devices were the our featured technology for the debut of a series of Behind the Hot Apps events featuring the brightest stars in the compound semi industry.

1. Blue 2003 targeted the business-to-market level, whereas most industry events are aimed at the traditional engineering/technology level. Thus, Blue 2003 was a Technology Review that helped create a cohesive, overall message that we're continuing to deliver out to the mainstream business and technology media. That wider-audience media, in turn, represents a increased visibility, understanding, and acceptance by the general public which, ultimately, buys the end products. This is a charter other compound semi industry events have not addressed. Blue 2003 helped the blue spectrum community make a critical step forward by matching news makers with news consumers.

That's key, because the total idea of "news" is changing with the adoption of online conduits and resources. The presentations and interactive discussions at Blue 2003 generated a myriad of fascinating "news hooks" that create interesting, exciting, and accurate reporting of the current, and continuing, developments in the blue spectrum community which the mainstream business and technical press want and need at their fingertips. And there's a growing number of "boutique" (or narrowcast) information sources now that business and consumers are beginning to rely on for their technology "big picture".

Blue 2003 continues to help suppliers gain increased visibility by tying the most exciting accomplishments together to weave a concise picture of how this all came about, what's entailed, who and what's behind the success, and what's really working (and what's not)... which creates even more... and sometimes even more exciting... applications.

2. Blue 2003 featured unique, colorful, and often humorous, "How We Got There" stories which always garner attention, and often turn out to be more helpful when it comes to creating the synergy needed to get "the message" to a wider audience. The end result is increased acceptance, which in turn leads to more rapid progress behind the scenes, higher volume production of value added product, and ultimately... increased profitability all around.

3. Blue 2003 focused specifically on the Nitride-based blue spectrum development and applications, so we were able to kept the message simple: "Here you see (in the critical mass necessary to achieve widespread credibility), the result of 20+ years of dramatic international technology development... and how that technology is truly revolutionizing the way we all live and work, now and into the future."

4. Blue 2003 is creating a snowball effect of acceptance and understanding, built around our industry's incredible 20 year "overnight success" story.

And, of course, Blue 2003 provided a great opportunity for business leaders from all the various levels of the blue spectrum "food chain" to meet face to face, dialog, and interact. Ask anyone who was there, and they'll confirm that the quality of the attendees was second to none.

We'll see you at Blue 2004!
