Anokiwave, Inc., of San Diego, California USA announced a collaboration with GlobalFoundries to deliver advanced Silicon Core IC solutions for mmWave active antennas. Anokiwave contends that Silicon based active antennas will be an essential contributor to the success of 5G networks operating at millimeter-wave frequencies.
Anokiwave plans to employ GlobalFoundries’ 130nm high-performance silicon-germanium (SiGe) technology platform, in the RF front-end for 5G and Fixed Wireless Millimeter Wave infrastructure, as well as other mmWave phased array consumer applications.
The collaboration will give Anokiwave early access to GlobalFoundry’s newly developed technology SiGe technology, allowing accelerated product development.

GlobalFoundries says its 8XP 130nm BiCMOS SiGe technology process blends high performance bipolar and power efficient MOS devices, and the process allows the integration of mmWave, analog, and digital functionality on a single IC.
Anokiwave says that the 8XP process leverages the technology that can enable low-cost planar arrays for mmW applications.
