Advantech Wireless of Montreal, Canada, announced that the company has received $3 million in orders from defense organizations to provide its GaN-based solid state power amplifiers (SSPAs) for Satcom-On-The-Move (SOTM) solutions and Flyaway terminals. The SSPAs will be WGS certified in Ka-Band and X-Band.
According to the company, the GaN-based SSPAs provide double the RF power compared to previous versions within the same footprint. Also, the new SSPAs can be 50% smaller and generate the same RF power. They reportedly generate 30% less heat and consume 70 percent less energy. Advanced Wireless contends that the the GaN crystal lattice structure, and the high temperature handling capabilities of the devices makes them extremely robust and reliable.
“We understand the challenges that government & military leaders face and our technologies empower them to communicate quickly, reliably and securely,” stated Cristi Damian, VP business development at Advantech Wireless. “Defense Organizations were among the first to adopt GaN technology, which in exchange allows higher power and higher traffic rates for mission critical operations.”
